Complex Emergency Advisor
Partners for Development (PFD) seeks individual to serve as Complex Emergency Advisor.
Key Responsibilities: Conduct research on complex emergencies; complete or coordinate needs-assessments in the field; complete or coordinate concepts and proposals. Advise on rehabilitation and/or emergency response activities.
Qualifications: Three or more years of NGO field management experience, with at least one year in a complex emergency setting. Preferred experience in public health, economic revitalization; disaster mitigation; and/or local capacity-building. Demonstrated self-reliant problem-solver who can thrive in stressful environments and manages risk well. Excellent writing and verbal skills; budgeting knowledge; familiarity with liaison/negotiation with donors/host governments; and cultural sensitivity. Knowledge of proposal development with USAID/OFDA; UN agencies, bi-laterals, and of relevant protocols, including SPHERE. Dedicated team player proficient in multiple-deadline environment. Computer proficient. Ability and willingness to travel on short notice and live in potentially harsh, risky environment TDY. Relevant advanced degree.

Internships
PFD is currently recruiting for its Summer 2012 internship program.
The internship will take place at PFD’s Silver Spring headquarters; domestic/regional applicants only. Interns will receive lunch/transport allowance or school credit only.
Internships are available in two areas:
1. Financial/Accounting Intern
2. Program Support Intern
Qualifications:
Advanced degree candidate (International Development, Accounting/Finance, Public Health or similar degree preferred). Demonstrated interest in international relief and development. Self-reliant problem solver and team player. Excellent verbal and written skills. Applicants will be interviewed and writing samples may be requested.
Specific duties:
1. Financial/Accounting Intern:
- Maintain information management system
- Assist with accounting journal entries
- Update budget tracking tools
- Assist with various administrative duties
2. Programming Research and Support Intern:
- Conduct research on countries where PFD is operational or is assessing
- Assist in proposal-writing and research
- Assist with program research and reports
- Help design Annual Report and/or brochures
- Update organizational fact sheets
- Help research foundation and corporate prospects
- Assist with fundraising and outreach efforts
